Life and Witness
Brother and Sister in Cilicia
Saints Zenobius and Zenobia came from a devout family in Aegae of Cilicia. Their life is placed in the time of Emperor Diocletian. Zenobius practiced medicine without payment, and the siblings shared their resources through works of charity.
A Shared Confession
The governor Lysias ordered Zenobius to be arrested. Zenobia then came forward voluntarily, wishing to share her brother’s confession and suffering. Both refused to abandon their Christian faith, endured torture, and were beheaded.
Their Place in the Church’s Memory
The Greek Synaxarion also preserves the tradition that Zenobius became bishop of Aegae and worked many miracles. He is therefore honored as a hieromartyr, together with his sister the martyr Zenobia. Their feast on October 30 recalls a family bond made stronger through service and fidelity to Christ.
