Life and Witness
A Merciful Farmer
Saint Myron was born on Crete and worked as a farmer. Even before ordination he was known for generosity, forgiving thieves and giving freely from what he possessed.
His mercy led the Christian community to recognize pastoral gifts in him. He was ordained priest and later Bishop of Gortyna or Knossos according to differing ecclesiastical notices.
Bishop and Wonderworker
Myron shepherded the people through teaching, charity and prayer. The hagiographical tradition records that he stopped the flow of a river so that he could cross and then commanded it to continue.
Other healings and signs are attributed to his intercession, always understood as works of God rather than personal power.
Repose and Feast
The saint lived to a great age and reposed peacefully, leaving the Church an example of generosity joined to episcopal service.

From the Orthodox Synaxarion
The Prologue from Ohrid remembers Saint Myron’s generosity even before his episcopal ministry. His mercy toward those who wronged him became a sign of the pastoral meekness and wonderworking grace later associated with his service in Crete.
Historical Record and Ecclesiastical Tradition
The Synaxarion's stable witness presents Myron as a charitable farmer who became Bishop of Gortyna in Crete and was renowned for pastoral meekness. The episode in which he halts and redirects a river is reported as hagiographical miracle testimony; this bishop must not be confused with Saint Myron the Presbyter and Martyr commemorated on August 17.
