Life and Witness
Saint Leontius of Tripoli
Saint Leontius was a soldier stationed at Tripoli in Phoenicia during the reign of Vespasian. Though serving in the army, he confessed Christ and showed mercy to the poor.
Hypatius and Theodulus were sent in connection with his arrest. Through Leontius's witness and a vision granted by God, they came to faith in Christ.
Baptism and Martyrdom
The ecclesiastical account relates that a luminous cloud overshadowed the new believers and water was provided for their Baptism. Their conversion turned agents of imperial authority into fellow confessors.
Hypatius and Theodulus were martyred, and Leontius endured torture before surrendering his soul to God. Their courage is honored as the work of grace in people who placed loyalty to Christ above military command.

Historical Record and Ecclesiastical Tradition
Leontius's confession at Tripoli in Phoenicia and the conversion and martyrdom of the soldiers Hypatius and Theodulus form one connected martyr account. Their visions, Baptism by miraculous rain and detailed torments are identified as Synaxarion narration; the article does not treat military rank or judicial dialogue as independently preserved government records.
